Are you looking for a therapist near Croydon? A therapist near Bromley? Or even a therapist near Lewisham?
Then you’ve come to the right place. I work in a central location, close to good transport links and free street parking. My office space is in a discrete building with a waiting room, just off a main road. You are welcome to help yourself to tea and coffee to help you feel more settled. So what now?
It is important to find someone you feel comfortable with, someone you can grow to trust and be honest with. This isn’t necessarily the therapist closest to you. It can take a couple of tries before you find the right therapist for you. Here are a few things to consider.
Having a therapist near you is really convenient when having face to face sessions. You are in a new environment, in the same room and it can feel really containing. Face to face sessions are great as you get to feel the energy in the room, have a place to step away from your everyday life and your therapist can use different materials to work with you in person. But is it the only option?
Video call and telephone calls are great for when you are restricted for time or need to be at home. They are also great if you take in information better through listening and want something that feels like talking to a friend. The thought of therapy can be daunting for some, preventing them from getting the support they need. These may be better options to ease your way in and take some of the pressure off until you feel more comfortable.
Walk and talk therapy is another great option, not only are you talking but you get to connect with the environment around you. Taking in fresh air helps you to relax and release tension, the greenery or natural landscape invites us to let go of thoughts and notice the smaller things. Free from the constraints of being inside, it can be easier to discuss things on a nice walk through the park and keep fit at the same time.
Other things to consider when picking a therapist near me….
It doesn’t happen often but it is possible to see your therapist outside of therapy. How would you like your therapist to handle this? Discussing this ahead of time with your therapist, can help ease any awkwardness should that happen. Would you be comfortable with people recognising you in an area where you have sessions? And what about seeing someone in the same building? These are all things to discuss when googling “therapist near me”.
